About Halstead Community Choir

Founded in January 2016 using a grant from Braintree District Council and logistical support from The Ramsey Academy, Halstead, Halstead Community Choir is a large singing group for all ages and all abilities.

Now a self-funding, autonomous organisation run by committee with professional music directors in the form of husband and wife team Hugh and Sam Conway, the choir has gone from strength to strength with around fifty regular members currently singing with us. We are based at The Empire Theatre, Halstead using them for our rehearsals and major concerts each year. In 2018 the choir was granted charity status due to its large and positive contribution to the local community in Halstead and the surrounding area.

In 2022 the choir moved to The Empire Theatre in Halstead and at the same time, Hugh and Sam, the two Musical Directors, helped set up the Halstead Dementia Friendly Choir, which is run in conjunction with the Community Choir and the Empire Theatre.

The philosophy of Halstead Community Choir is all about getting people singing and providing a force for good in their lives. The choir is inclusive and aims to break down the barriers surrounding access to music whilst always striving to achieve the highest standards possible.

We also have a lively social side with events such as our annual ceilidh and quiz nights always popular with members and their friends and families.

The choir sings a large variety of repetoire including modern and classic pop, folk, rock and spiritual.

New members are always welcome – come and see what we are all about!
